My Role and What I Learned
I was hired to the Little Arms (LAS) team in my sophomore year of college as a sales intern and within 6 months was promoted to an Assistant Producer working to manage and organize the development processes as well as facilitate and participate in crucial design discussions. I quickly become a change agent at the organization working closely with LAS's 3 founders Alex, Stew, and Kyle to better organize and facilitate the development processes at the company. I helped to implement and enforce stricter following of SCRUM management principles, created and implemented a new quarterly release schedule and customer feedback tracking system, and interviewed with key customers to identify future feature developments.
The most important thing I learned while working at LAS is flexible development and small increments create an impressive and polished finished product NOT flawless planning and a perfect idea. Working at LAS is where I was first introduced to SCRUM management principles and immediately it made much larger more difficult tasks and projects seem far more attainable.
The other principle that was really reinforced for me during my time at LAS is people and culture are the foundation of a good product and work environment. Of course that's not absolutely everything you need for a project but it really is the most important aspect in my opinion. No workplace is perfect but making sure everyone has each other's backs and enjoys coming to work will do more for a project than anything else. I have been so lucky to work with such a great team at Little Arms and truly believe that their success relies on the encouraging, resilient, and dedicated culture they've built.
